What Works For You?

Have you ever thought things just aren’t working for you? Maybe
you’ve stopped doing the things that work?

Have you ever taken note of the things that do work for you? It
may be getting up earlier, going to bed earlier, eating better,
eating less, taking a walk in the sun, calling a friend on the
phone, reading a book, taking a class, keeping a tidy house,
patting the cat, treating other people the way you’d loved to be
treated yourself. This list could go on and on.

When things are going well we can often relax and go onto auto pilot.
We stop doing the things that it took to get to the good place we
find ourselves in and soon enough we find ourselves back in a
place we’d rather not be.

Do you want to know the solution? Of course you do. The answer is
not found in fixing everything at once or correcting all stray things
at the same time.

Choose one thing that you know works for you and start doing that
again – and start today. Make 10 minutes to do that thing again.
Once you’ve made a start, momentum will kick in and you’ll remember
what its like to be doing things that work for you once again.

There are basic laws in life that just don’t change. If you water
a plant with poison you know that it will die. However, we often
feed ourselves all kinds of rubbish and wonder why we don’t feel
well.

If you plant a rose at the beach its not likely to do so well.
However, we put ourselves in the wrong place and wonder why we’re
unhappy and unproductive. You know how it goes – it might be
wrong relationships, wrong jobs, wrong social hangouts. We make
wrong choices and yet we’re surprised when the result is that we’re
not happy.

Choose today to do what you know works. Choose today to do one
thing that won’t take too long that will start you getting back
to how you want life to be.

And don’t do it alone. If you’re feeling like you’re off track,
call a trusted friend and tell them what you’re going to do so
they can be running along side of you encouraging and cheering you
on.

The journey of a thousand steps starts with just one, so start
today and tomorrow you will have already pulled away from where
you were and you’ll be closer to where you want to be.

Thanks Roger and Jacqui. I was watching the Singapore GP and thought of you. I hope you’re having a great time :)

  2. Thank you, Simon!
This is just what I needed right now. I’m going to shut all the tabs on the computer, after I’ve watched a couple of Amazima Minstries clips, then sit on the couch with a cuppa tea and a book. Thanks for reminding me to feed myself things that fuel me, not drain me. Call a trusted friend? That’s what husbands are for, isn’t it? :-)
